Vision Guide Dogs is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of those who are blind or visually impaired. Our model for guide dog training is one in which the advanced training dogs are housed with the GDMI or approved border. This further reinforces their training because they will ultimately be placed with their client in a residential setting. The VGD in-home training model allows us to train with clients that cannot travel to a centralized residential training facility. VGD provides individualized training for each client and guide dog team and offers continued support to each team post-graduation throughout the guide dog’s working life. VGD best practices for advanced training include personalized matching of the client and dog regarding skill level, living and working environment, dog temperament and physical attributes to ensure team success for the working life of the dog. Our collaboration with Pilot Dogs allows us to receive high quality guide dog puppies that are ready for advanced training.
